…The U.S.A.'s hollow flag is the hollow version of its national flag, flown to denounce past, present and future wrongs, such as lack of democracy, corruption, abuses, etc. It represents the nation as a "hollow" one. In order to do so, the flag is devoid of colours, with black lines outlining the original red and white stripes. The stars in the canton can be either hollow (cut-out) or, for convenience, simply black. …The U.S.A.'s hollow flag is first raised to protest contemporary attitudes linked to the WikiLeaks case, namely the calls against freedom of speech, the thwarting of the law to suit the government and not the people the government represents, as well as the threats of death and violence against Assange. …Those attitudes logically represents only a part of the U.S. population and its politics. Therefore, the hollowness of the country is correspondingly limited. The intention of the flag is thus limited, as well. …Furthermore, the hollow flag is not necessarily raised as a support for Assange nor to denounce particular actions or politics made public by WikiLeaks. It is flown to denounce the hollow constitutional and democratic values that have appeared around the case. …A white flag is a companion to this hollow flag. |
